Truck Renter’s Guide

Is it your first time renting a truck or van? A little rusty since your last rental? Our Renter’s Checklist will walk you through the need to-do’s and must-know’s for your rental.

Select a rental truck or van

Renters typically measure the dimensions of their cargo as the first step to selecting a vehicle. Compare your dimensions to the ones we have listed for our vehicles. If you’re moving, we have helpful notes next to our vehicles estimating how many “rooms” they will hold. Check out our vehicle details before making your reservation.

Driver’s age and adding drivers

• All drivers must be at least 21 years old (18 in NY and MI with an additional fee).
• Non-commercial drivers between 21-24 years old (18 in NY and MI) may have certain vehicle restrictions. Renters under the age of 21, please contact us  to learn more. Underage and additional driver fees apply where applicable.
• Drivers 25 years or older have no vehicle age restrictions
• Adding drivers can be done at the branch when picking up the vehicle. All drivers need to show a valid driver’s license. See driver’s license requirements in our Help Section.
  

Payment for your rental

Most of our locations require you to pay with a major credit card in your name, with the exception of NY and CT, and may require a deposit. Amounts vary by location.

Some locations will accept a debit card linked to a checking account, but might have restrictions.

Protection for you and your vehicle

Moving supplies and accessories

For your convenience, our branches have various pads, straps and hand trucks available to buy or rent to help your job go smoothly. Click review our moving supplies.

Towing

Need to tow? Our locations rent towing capable pickup trucks. Towing is available for ¾ and 1 ton pickups. Additional towing charges may apply. Contact your local branch for details.

Rental Safety

Safety first! Driving a truck or van may be very different from a regular car. Our staff will walk you through vehicle features, but before you pick up your rental, it will be helpful for you to think about the following: Are you going to need to back up your large truck? Does your truck have a lift gate? Are there rules about where you can park your rental vehicle?
